An Ode to Berry Sorbet

I thought long and hard about what I wanted my first blog post to be. I've been to my fair share of cool restaurants and I've made some really special dishes, but the bliss I felt yesterday while enjoying a mug of berry sorbet begs to be shared.
To adequately understand the sheer euphoria of yesterday's sorbet experience, some context is required. I recently started to work at my local bakery. We go to the farmer's market to sell our products every Saturday and yesterday was my first time there. My job was simple enough: take pastry orders and bag them for customers. However, with a line out the tent, this meant being "on" to converse with and serve customers for a good four hours. In the moment, I was on a high. Connecting with people is a big reason why I love the local food industry. We're creating and selling a product that will bring our customers joy in the down-to earth and fun environment that is the farmer's market. Yet once the line died down, my exhaustion plopped itself on my shoulders like a ton of bricks. All I could think about was the stand next to us, which had been serving up ice cold juices and lemonades all morning. I had planned to grab one as soon as it was time to take the tent down, but when I glanced over at the stand after we served our last customer, they had put all of their equipment away. I was crushed. All I wanted was an ice-cold berry juice after a long morning shift, is that too much to ask?
After packing up, going back to the bakery, unloading, and cleaning up, I finally arrived at home after being on my feet for seven hours. I was sweaty (and a little stinky) but I couldn't bother to shower yet. The only thing on my mind was that damn berry juice. The closest thing I had was some frozen berries at the bottom of the freezer. I pulled them out and got to work. I put some frozen strawberries and blueberries in the food processor along with some squeezed orange juice and honey and blended until smooth. A minute later, I was left with frozen berry goodness. I ate my perfectly balanced berry sorbet in a mug on my couch in my sweaty bakery t-shirt. As my feet throbbed from hours of standing, I closed my eyes and enjoyed every single bite.
Screw the juice. From now on, I'm making sorbet.
